"God will judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ..."

Text: Romans 2:16

A QUICK REVIEW OF THE DOCTRINE OF GOD’S JUDGMENT

Paul has now described three ways by which God will judge mankind:-

1. He will judge according to completely objective truth (Romans 2:2).

2. He will judge according to deeds (Romans 2:6).

3. He will judge by the law.

a) The formal written law (Israel)
b) The law written in the heart (Gentiles)

A FOURTH WAY DESCRIBED

Paul went on to describe a fourth way in which God will judge man.

“In the day when God will judge the secrets of men
by Jesus Christ, according to my gospel.”
Romans 2:16

The teaching of Jesus as Judge was also highlighted by the apostle John.

“For the Father judges no one, but has committed
all judgment to the Son.

“And has given Him authority to execute judgment also,

because He is the Son of Man.
I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge;
And My judgment is righteous…”
John 5:22, 27, 30

1. Jesus as Judge

Paul’s teaching concerning judgment is in full concord with what Jesus Himself taught.

2. Jesus as Saviour

Is Jesus also the Saviour too? How does He function as Saviour if He is also the Judge? Let us ponder the following text for the answer.

“Most assuredly, IS ay to you, he who hears My word
and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life,
and shall not come into judgment, but has passed
from death into life.”
John 5:24

To those who hear and believe in the Gospel of the Lord Jesus, these would not come into judgment. Those who reject the Gospel will have to face Jesus as the Judge!
