"I shall come in the fullness of the blessing of the gospel..."

Text: Romans 15:29

LOOKING FORWARD TO VISITING ROME

Paul looked forward to visiting Rome for a number of reasons. Let us review what he hoped to see when he arrived in Rome.

1. He hoped to impart to them “a spiritual gift” (Cf. Romans 1:11a).

2. He hoped to help them become “established” in their faith (Cf. Romans 1:11b).

3. He hoped that there would be mutual benefit through fellowship (Cf. Romans 1:12).

4. He desired to have some fruit through ministering in Rome (Cf. Romans 1:13).

5. He hoped that the brethren in Rome would help him in his plans to go minister in Spain (Cf. Romans 15:24).

AN IMPORTANT ADDITIONAL NOTE

Paul once again mentioned his desire to visit Rome. He added an important element in the following text.

“But I know that when I come to you,
I shall come in the fullness of the blessing
of the gospel of Christ.”
Romans 15:29

1. I know that when I come to you

a) This was not an empty, vain-glorious boast of Paul.
b) His confidence stemmed from his deep and rich faith in Christ!

2. I shall come in the fullness of the blessing of the gospel of Christ

a) The gospel of Christ brings great blessings (Cf. Ephesians 1:3-14).
b) The fullness of blessing of the gospel of Christ
i) This fullness is obvious when one reads Paul’s epistles.
ii) There is fullness of blessing through sharing deep insights from the Scriptures.
iii) There is fullness of blessing through prayer (Cf. Ephesians 1:15-19).
iv) There is fullness of blessing through great fellowship in Christ.
