"The God of Hope..."

Text: Romans 15:13

SPECIAL TITLES OF GOD

Paul came up with many titles to describe God. Each one of them held deep personal and theological meaning for him. Here is a short list of some of these beautiful titles:

1. The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ (Cf. Ephesians 1:2)

2. The Father of mercies and God of all comfort (Cf. 2 Corinthians 1:3)

3. The God of peace (Cf. Philippians 4:9)

4. The God of Hope (Romans 15:13)

A STRONG EMPHASIS ON HOPE

Paul had a very strong theology of hope! He appealed to this sense of hope time and time again (Cf. Romans 5:1-5; 8:24-25; 15:13).

1. Creation of Hope

God Himself creates this great sense of hope in the believer’s heart! Hope is closely tied to faith in the Lord (Cf. Romans 5:1-5)

2. Saved by Hope

Paul argued that we may even speak of being saved in the hope (faith) that God has given to all believers. This hope is that of full and final redemption from sin (Cf. Romans 8:24-25).

3. Abounding in hope

Paul, in the following text described the divine work of God in human hearts.

“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace
in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of
the Holy Spirit.”
Romans 15:13

a) Blessings from the God of Hope

Two blessings are highlighted as faith is exercised in the God of Hope:

i) Joy
ii) Peace
b) In conjunction with the ministry of the Holy Spirit

With the ministry of the Holy Spirit in the heart, great power is made available so that the believer may abound in hope!
