"Do you have faith?"

Text: Romans 14:22

THE GIFT OF FAITH

Thank God for the gift of faith! Many things are accomplished through faith. The following may be highlighted:-

1. By faith we comprehend God’s gift of salvation.

2. By faith we approach God and we please Him thereby.

3. By faith we live out our belief in God.

4. By faith we attempt and accomplish great things for God.

THE DANGER OF TAKING PRIDE IN OUR PERSONAL FAITH

Paul had to address the subject of personal faith in the following text.

“Do you have faith?
Have it to yourself before God.”
Romans 14:22a

1. Paul was not faulting personal faith.

2. He was not putting down people who had a strong personal faith.

The above text is better understood when we read the rest of the statement.

“Happy is he who does not condemn himself
in what he approves.”
Romans 14:22b

3. Faith enables a person to know that he may eat and drink freely.

4. Faith is able to offer a word of approval in having the above knowledge.

5. Faith that does not consider weaker brethren poses personal danger.

The person of faith can end up with “condemnation” ;

a) From a brother who is stumbled.
b) From a brother who is offended.
c) From a brother who is weakened.

THE TRULY BLESSED BELIEVER

The believer with a strong faith is blessed indeed. He is that much more blessed when he exercises his faith carefully. He may count himself truly “happy” when he exercises strong faith with tender consideration for those who are weaker!
