"Every knee shall bow to Me..."

Text: Romans 14:11

THE LORD JESUS AS JUDGE

This was a word that Jesus Himself taught His disciples. This is an awesome teaching.

“For the Father judges no one, but has committed
All judgment to the Son…
And has given Him authority to execute judgment also,
Because He is the Son of Man”
John 5:22, 27

There is no mistaking the strength of this statement about Jesus as Judge.

FURTHER WORD OF CONFIRMATION

The apostle Paul was in absolute agreement. He cited Isaiah as his authority.

“For it is written,
‘As I live, says the LORD,
Every knee shall bow to Me,
And every tongue shall confess to God.'”
Romans 14:11

1. The authority of the Scriptures

Paul appealed to the authority of the Scriptures with these words “It is written”.

2. Appreciating the authority of God

a) As God (Creator)
b) As LORD (Master)
c) By sovereign right as Lord over all creation

THE LORDSHIP OF CHRIST INCLUDES JUDGMENT

This was established on a number of counts:-

1. By virtue of what Christ had done (Romans 14:9)

2. By virtue of God’s decree (Cf. John 5:22, 27)

3. The Lordship of Jesus includes the fact that He will judge all His servants.

DO NOT JUDGE

In another epistle, Paul urged the Corinthian Church not to stand in judgment of anyone. He showed consistency in his writing on the subject of not judging people.

“Therefore judge nothing before the time,
until the Lord comes…”
1 Corinthians 4:5
