"If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus..."

Text: Romans 10:9

THE CRUX OF THE CHRISTIAN FAITH

What is the crux of the Christian faith? There is a risk of over-simplifying things, but the following text comes very close to offer a one verse statement of the heart of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ!

“That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus
and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead,
you will be saved.”
Romans 10:9

There are many ways to discuss the doctrine of salvation!

1. The theological way (harder)

a) There is heavy discussion on:
i) Righteousness by law
ii) Righteousness by faith
b) There is also heavy discussion on
i) Justification
ii) Calling
iii) Glorification

2. The simpler (layman’s way which seems much simpler)

a) How may one be saved?

Paul now attempted to simplify all that he had been teaching thus far!

b) In a nutshell- we have Paul stating the crux of the Christians faith here.
i) There must be faith in the Person of the Lord Jesus.
ii) There must be faith that God raised Him from the dead.
iii) There must be genuine belief in the heart.
iv) There must be confession from the mouth of personal faith in Christ.

This Gospel message is surely not difficult to understand! Salvation is too important not to find simpler ways to explain what it means to believe in Jesus!
