"The word of faith..."

Text: Romans 10:8

THE WORD PREACHED

Is the doctrine of imputed righteousness by faith that hard to understand? Paul does not think so! He wrote,

“But what does it say,
‘The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart’
(that is, the word of faith which we preach)”
Romans 10:8

These words were borrowed from the Book of Deuteronomy. Moses wrote,

“But the word is very near you, in your mouth
and in your heart, that you may do it.”
Deuteronomy 30:14

1. The word preached (by Paul)

a) It is “the word of faith”.
i) It is a word that generates faith.
ii) It is a word that must be received with faith (Cf. Hebrews 4:2).
b) It is so very near, it is almost tangible.
i) It is as close as in the mouth.
ii) It is as close as in the heart.

2. How should the word of God be received that it may be effective?

We have an excellent example in the Thessalonian Church.

“For this reason we also thank God without ceasing,
because when you received the Word of God which
you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men,
but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively
works in you who believe.”
1 Thessalonians 2:13

a) The Thessalonians could discern that the word preached was from God.
b) The word preached was thus given a royal welcome.
c) This word of God began to work effectively in the hearts of the believers.

The word (doctrine) preached, concerning justification by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, is a most believable and a most soul-uplifting truth ever!
