“Exalt the LORD our God…” Psalm 99:5a
DIFFERENT EMPHASES IN OUR WORSHIP OF GOD
This series of psalms focuses on the theme of worship. The following emphases may be noted:-
1. Bowing down to God in humble worship (Psalm 95:6).
2. Worshipping the Lord in the beauty of holiness (Psalm 96:9).
3. Calling all to worship the Lord alone (Psalm 97:7).
4. Exalting the Lord in worship (Psalm 99:5).
Each emphasis is valid. Combined together, we have a wonderful theology of worship.
EXALTING GOD IN WORSHIP
Let us ponder the following text that teaches us how to focus on exalting God in worship.
“The King’s strength also loves justice;
You have established equity;
You have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob.
Exalt the LORD our God,
And worship at His footstool – He is holy.”
Psalm 99:4-5
1. Exalting God for what He has done
a) Loving justice
b) Establishing equity
c) Executing justice and righteousness in the land (“Jacob”)
2. Exalting the Lord for who He is
a) He is the Lord God.
b) He is the Lord God of Israel.
i) “The LORD our God” Deuteronomy 1:6
ii) “The LORD your God” Deuteronomy 1:10
c) He is holy.
Worship must be offered in great humility. We come before the footstool of God. How exalted is the Lord our God!
