Day 65 – Psalm 97

“Rejoice in the LORD, you righteous…” Psalm 97:12a

APPROPRIATE RESPONSE

How should one respond to God after discovering Him as a majestic and glorious Lord? We are given a series of wonderful suggestions as to how we may respond to God.

“You who love the LORD, hate evil!
He preserves the souls of His saints;
He delivers them out of the hand of the wicked.
Light is sown for the righteous,
And gladness for the upright in heart.
Rejoice in the LORD, you righteous,
And give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name.”
Psalm 97:10-12

1. Appreciate God for what He does for His saints

a) He preserved their very souls.
b) He delivered them from wicked people.
c) He gave light to the righteous.
i) Described as a seed being sown.
ii) Light in its fullness will then bring enlightenment to the righteous.
d) He gives gladness of heart to the upright.

2. Practical ramifications

a) The righteous must learn to love the Lord.
b) Concurrently he must learn how to hate evil.
c) He must desire to walk in the light.
d) His light must be filled with gladness.
e) He must learn how to rejoice in the Lord always.
f) At every remembrance of the Lord’s holy name there should be thanksgiving.
g) The righteous must ever desire to offer heartfelt and grateful worship to the Lord.
