Day 48 – Psalm 94

“But the LORD has been my defense…” Psalm 94:22a

TOTAL TRUST IN GOD

The psalmist found himself in the thick of a spiritual battle. Evil was rampant in the land. He and others who had not bowed the knee to idols risked their lives when they stood up for the Lord.

“But the LORD has been my defense,
And my God the rock of my refuge.
He has brought on them their own iniquity,
And shall cut them off in their own wickedness;
The LORD our God shall cut them off.”
Psalm 94:22-23

1. “The LORD our God”

a) The righteous will own Him as the Lord their God.
b) They will experience the following:-
i) He will be their defense.
ii) He will be their rock of refuge.

2. Judgment of the wicked

a) The psalmist had appealed to the Lord as the Judge of the earth (Psalm 94:2).
b) God will rise up and shine forth for the righteous (Psalm 94:1-2).
c) God has brought on them their iniquity.
i) Their own iniquity will be their undoing.
ii) Their iniquity will bring its own inevitable judgment on their heads.
iii) The evil they perpetrate will result in their being destroyed by evil.
d) The Lord shall cut them off.
i) God could also initiate Divine intervention.
ii) Divine justice could result in unexpected death.
iii) In any case, the wicked will not prevail.

The psalmist concludes his prayer on a deeper note of trust in God as the Judge of all the earth!
