“Your mercy, O LORD, will hold me up.” Psalm 94:18b

THE MERCY OF GOD

The psalmist must have faced very tough times. He faced evildoers. He resisted them, virtually all alone. How did he cope?

“If I say, ‘My foot slips,’
Your mercy, O LORD, will hold me up.
In the multitude of my anxieties within me,
Your comforts delight my soul.”
Psalm 94:18-19

1. Problems that crop up

a) “My foot slips”

i) Mistakes will be made.

ii) Slip-ups will occur.

iii) How easy it is to fall and to fail.

b) “My anxieties”

i) These were counted in terms of “a multitude”.

ii) So many things in life can cause anxieties to well up.

2. God’s answers to these very human problems

a) God offers His mercy (NT… “grace” Cf. 2 Corinthians 12:9)

i) His mercy is sufficient.

ii) His mercy will hold us up.

iii) We need not feel overwhelmed.

b) God offers His comforts.

ii) His Power

iii) His word
