Day 45 – Psalm 94

“Unless the LORD had been my help…” Psalm 94:17a

GOD’S HAND IN OUR LIFE

Just as life ought not to be taken for granted, neither should God’s gracious hand be taken for granted. The psalmist recalled a time when he felt he was all alone. But God was there with him.

“Who will rise up for me against the evildoers?
Who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity?
Unless the LORD had been my help,
My soul would soon have settled in silence.”
Psalm 94:16-17

1. “Who will rise up for me against the evildoers?”

a) Realistically speaking, few would stand up against evildoers.
b) Few will rise up because they are afraid for their own lives.

2. “Who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity?”

a) The psalmist stood up for the down-trodden.
b) But who would stand up for the psalmist as he battled workers of iniquity?

3. “Unless the LORD had been my help”

a) The answer to the above question was obvious- no one stood up for him.
b) Only the Lord stood with him and gave him help.
i) He is the Lord.
ii) He is committed to helping His people.
iii) He will not forsake His inheritance.

4. “My soul would soon have settled in silence”

a) The psalmist would have perished if the Lord had not been there for him.
b) His soul would henceforth be silent because death had occurred.
c) The thought of being killed by evildoers was sobering.
d) To be delivered from death by the Lord is an experience never to be forgotten!
