“Blessed is the man whom You instruct, O LORD…” Psalm 94:12

THE BLESSING OF BEING INSTRUCTED BY GOD

The psalmist believes with all his heart that God instructs man. How blessed is the individual whom God instructs!

“Blessed is the man whom You instruct, O LORD,
And teach out of Your law,
That You may give him rest from the days of adversity,
Until the pit is dug for the wicked.”
Psalm 94:12-13

1. How did God instruct man in the past?

a) In the past, God would instruct special individuals, e.g. the prophets.
b) They were instructed to write down the teachings they received.
c) The core content of His instruction is to be found in His law.

2. How does God instruct man in the present?

a) He instructs through His written word.
b) He instructs through the ministry of the Holy Spirit.
c) He instructs through His servants (Ephesians 4:11-13).

3. What are some of God’s goals?

a) He desires to give “rest” to His people.
i) He understands that there will be days of adversity.
ii) However, His elect must not be terrified by the wicked.
iii) He will continue to be there with His people, to instruct them.
b) He will deal with the wicked.
i) He is digging a pit for the wicked.
ii) The wicked will fall into the pit.
iii) They will ultimately be destroyed.
