Day 41 – Psalm 94

“Understand, you senseless among the people…” Psalm 94:8a

STANDING UP AGAINST THE WICKED

The psalmist was not afraid of the wicked. He was not cowering in fear when he brought his petitions to God! In the following text, he addresses the wicked forthrightly.

“Understand, you senseless among the people;
And you fools, when will you be wise?
He who planted the ear, shall He not hear?
He who formed the eye, shall He not see?”
Psalm 94:8-9

1. Bold language employed to address the wicked proud

a) He called them “senseless”.
b) He also called them “fools”.
c) He understood the consequences of his action.
i) He could be afflicted by the wicked.
ii) He could even be killed.
iii) In the cause of justice, he chose to stand up courageously.

2. An important point to bring across

a) An appeal to understanding God as Creator.
i) God planted the ear so that man can hear.
ii) God formed the eye so that man can see.
iii) The ear and the eye cannot shut God out of life’s picture.
b) Significance
i) As much as man can hear, so can God.
ii) As much as man can see, so can God.
iii) God sees the activities of the wicked and He will judge.
iv) God hears the cry of the poor and helpless and He will deliver them.

The wicked must not continue to think that God has distanced Himself from mankind.
