“The LORD reigns, He is clothed with majesty…” Psalm 93:1a

A SHORT MEDITATION

Psalm 93 is a short meditative psalm that focuses on the Person of the Lord.

“The LORD reigns, He is clothed with majesty;
The LORD is clothed,
He has girded Himself with strength.
Surely the world is established, so that it cannot be moved.”
Psalm 93:1

Three features about the Lord stand out significantly to the psalmist.

1. Meditation on the Person of the Lord

a) “The Lord reigns”
i) He reigns supreme.
ii) His reign may be invisible, but He reigns nevertheless.
b) “He is clothed with majesty”
i) His majesty is not easily seen.
ii) Nevertheless the Lord being King is clothed with majesty.

2. Meditation on the strength of the Lord

a) Strength is a natural attribute of God.
b) When He is described as One who has “girded Himself with strength”.
i) It often means He is about to do something significant.
ii) He could be using His strength to deliver His people.
iii) He could be facing His enemies with His strength.

3. Meditation on the establishment of the world

a) There is calm assurance that God is in absolute control.
b) He has established the world by His strength.
c) The wicked cannot overthrow His reign.
