“The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree…” Psalm 92:12a

MEDITATION ON THE RIGHTEOUS

The Sabbath day ought to be filled with good and godly activities. One such activity is to meditate on God’s blessing on the righteous.

“The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree,
He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
Those who are planted in the house of the LORD
Shall flourish in the courts of our God.”
Psalm 92:12-13

1. An important contrast

a) The wicked and the righteous are contrasted.

b) Meditation on both subjects will give greater clarity of understanding.

2. “The righteous”

a) They are compared to palm trees or the majestic cedars of Lebanon.

b) The wicked are compared to mere grass (Psalm 92:7).

c) The contrast is remarkable.

3. “Those who are planted in the house of the Lord”

a) Similarity is to be noted in the following phrases:-

i) “In the house of the LORD”

ii) “In the courts of God”

b) The picture to bear in mind.

i) The tabernacle of God.

ii) Trees planted in the courts of the House of the Lord.

c) These trees:-

i) They will grow well.

ii) They will flourish for they will be carefully tended by God Himself.
