“On an instrument of ten strings…” Psalm 92:3a
THE USE OF MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS IN WORSHIP
We have a glimpse of how Sabbath day worship was conducted in the ancient days.
“On an instrument of ten strings,
On the lute, and on the harp,
With harmonious sound.”
Psalm 92:3
1. Ancient musical instruments
a) The harp
b) Lutes
c) Instrument of ten strings
All of the above are string-instruments!
2. General Meaning
a) These instruments were accompaniments.
b) The players were trained.
c) These instruments accompanied the singing of praises to the Lord.
3. Special Meaning
a) The musicians could have given special items.
b) These special items rendered praise to the Lord.
4. Harmonious sounds
a) Harmony is of course to be expected.
b) The emphasis on harmony could suggest the following:-
i) Music could be very uplifting.
ii) Music played a significant role in worship.
iii) Every encouragement is given to the musicians to develop their music ministry.
These thoughts are applicable to the church today!
