This psalm was meant to be sung as a song.

3. The Sabbath Day

This psalm was meant to be sung on the Sabbath day. It could be sung where people gathered for worship. It could also be sung by the individual at home.

GIVING THANKS TO THE LORD

Psalm 92 is significant because it gives us important insights as to how the Sabbath was to be kept.

“It is good to give thanks to the LORD,
And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High.”
Psalm 92:1

1. Keeping of the Sabbath day

a) This was commanded (Exodus 20:8).
b) This was a day of rest (essential meaning of the word “Sabbath”).
i) Six days were to be given to work (Exodus 23:12a).
ii) The seventh day was meant to be a day of rest (Exodus 23:12b).
iii) The Sabbath extends to animals (Exodus 23:12c).
iv) It extended to servants too (Exodus 23:12d).

2. An important additional insight

a) It was meant to be a day of giving thanks to the Lord.
i) In public worship
ii) In the home privately
b) It was meant to be a day of singing praise to the name of the Most High.

Reflection on the Lord’s Name and recounting His blessings should bring forth praise!
