Day 15 – Psalm 91

“Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler…” Psalm 91:3a

A GREAT SENSE OF CONFIDENCE

There is no mistaking the confidence the psalmist exuded in the following text:-

“Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler
And from the perilous pestilence.”
Psalm 91:3

1. “Surely”

a) Great confidence
b) Deep assurance
c) This word covers verses 3-4

2. “He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler”

a) The fowler is essentially a hunter.
b) He uses all kinds of snares to catch unwitting animals.
c) There is confidence that God would deliver those who abide in Him in faith.

3. “And from the perilous pestilence”

a) Pestilence is simply “disease” or “plague”.
b) A pestilence is always “perilous”.
c) In this context it is best to think of this “perilous pestilence” as a reference to God sending the plague.
d) It is thus not a reference to common plagues.
e) In the plagues sent by God, we may observe the following:-
i) God will make a distinction between His people and His enemies.
ii) God will spare His people from the pestilence He sends.
f) A classic example.
i) When God sent His plagues upon Egypt.
ii) The children of Israel were spared (Exodus 8:22-23).
