Day 7 – Psalm 90

“You have set our iniquities before You…” Psalm 90:8a

AN OMNISCIENT AND HOLY GOD

As Moses served the Lord his reverence for the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob deepened significantly. Two great truths, among others, stood out prominently.

“You have set our iniquities before You,
Our secret sins in the light of Your countenance.
For all our days have passed away in Your wrath;
We finish our years like a sigh.”
Psalm 90:8-9

1. The omniscience of God

a) God is all-knowing.
b) Nothing is hidden before the light of His countenance.
c) All iniquities are in the plain sight of God.
i) Open sins
ii) Secret sins

2. God’s wrath

a) God would be angry at all unrepentant people.
b) Consequences of God’s wrath.
i) Our days on earth would pass away too quickly.
ii) Our years on earth would be completed “like a sigh”.

WHAT WOULD BE AN APPROPRIATE RESPONSE?

Moses did not offer an easy answer in Psalm 90. No glib answer was offered. Instead Moses urged his readers to take time to ponder seriously the wrath of God!

1. The Lord is to be feared as “the everlasting God” (Psalm 90:2).

2. We must not trifle with this omniscient and holy God.

3. We must recognize the puny nature of man.

4. We would do well to learn how we can best relate to this great God and make Him our dwelling place.
