“He shall judge the world in righteousness…” Psalm 9:8a

A STRONG AND CONFIDENT HOPE

David’s hope in God as Divine Judge runs in a number of his psalms! (Psalms 7 and 9feature God as Judge very strongly)!

“But the LORD shall endure forever;
He has prepared His throne for judgment.
He shall judge the world in righteousness,
And He shall administer judgment for the peoples in uprightness”
Psalm 9:7-8

1. “But the LORD shall endure forever”

a) One of the features of God is His immutability.
b) God as LORD must fulfill this great truth of “enduring forever”.
c) David’s knowledge of God included this profound truth of God’s unchangeable sense of justice (“For I am the LORD, I do not change” Malachi 3:6).

2. Three soul-uplifting thoughts about God as Judge:

a) “He has prepared His throne for judgment”
i) God’s throne was a symbol of His authority.
ii) When He prepared His throne, He included a commitment to uphold justice
b) “He shall judge the world in righteousness”
i) He shall judge individuals.
ii) He shall also judge the world.
iii) He shall judge the world according to His absolute sense of righteousness.
c) “He shall administer judgment for the peoples in uprightness”
i) There is much injustice in the world.
ii) Human courts of justice are at best flawed.
iii) At worst they can harm the innocent and promote the cause of the wicked.
iv) However God will administer judgment (justice) in uprightness.
v) All who turn to God may have a strong and confident hope that they will receive full justice at this Divine throne!
