“You have made his glory cease…” Psalm 89:44a

HUMILIATION

Ethan continued to describe the humiliation felt by both the ruler and the nation of Judah. He felt deeply for the royal family especially.

“You have made his glory cease,
And cast his throne down to the ground.”
Psalm 89:44

1. “You”

a) Ethan continued to trace everything to God.
b) He was aggrieved that God had not somehow stepped in to deliver the nation.

2. “Made his glory cease”

a) Once the nation was full of glory.
b) Wherein was the glory?
i) There were good kings on the throne.
ii) No enemy ever gained victory.
iii) Peace prevailed in the land.
iv) The people enjoyed prosperity.
v) The nation enjoyed its worship of God.
c) The glory had ceased
i) Enemies ruled the land.
ii) Poverty was found everywhere.
iii) The kings were led captive.
d) “Cast his throne to the ground”
i) The royal family was led into captivity.
ii) The throne, if understood physically, had been cast to the ground.
iii) The throne, if understood metaphorically, had lost its prestige and glory.
