“Blessed are the people who know the joyful sound…” Psalm 89:15a

GREAT TRUTHS

As we read Psalm 89 carefully, we appreciate how Ethan the Ezrahite must have been a great seeker of truth. He had read well. He had understood God well. Knowledge of great truths was like wonderful music to him.

“Blessed are the people who know the joyful sound!
They walk, O LORD, in the light of Your countenance.”
Psalm 89:15

1. “The joyful sound”

a) Ethan was a musician and a great seeker of truth.
b) He composed great hymns out of the inspiration he had from discovering great truths.
c) These great and wonderful hymns of truth were indeed “joyful sounds”.

2. “Blessed are the people who know the joyful sounds”

a) There is blessing in acquiring knowledge.
b) Great knowledge may be called “the joyful sound”. And great music can bring so much joy to the heart.
c) Israel was so blessed with such great truths found in the Scriptures.

3. “They walk, O LORD, in the light of Your countenance”

a) Knowledge of God must be evidenced in life.
b) Knowledge of God must result in a “walk” with God.

4. “In the light of Your countenance”

a) God’s good countenance will be upon the following:-
i) People who find great joy in knowing Him.
ii) People who love truth given by God.
b) God’s word brings light to our path in life.
i) God would be suitably disposed to all who walk in the light of His countenance.
ii) We are challenged indeed to put into practice our knowledge of God.
