Day 319 – Psalm 89

“Your seed I will establish forever…” Psalm 89:4a

WHAT DID GOD’S COVENANT WITH DAVID COVER?

Ethan must have pondered much over God’s covenant with David. What did God say to His chosen servant, David? One aspect was brought up in this text.

“Your seed I will establish forever,
And build up your throne to all generations.”
Psalm 89:4

1. God’s regard for David

a) This was well appreciated.
b) God affectionately addressed David thus:-
i) My chosen Psalm 89:3a
ii) My servant David Psalm 89:3b

2. God’s promise to David concerning his seed

a) “Your seed I will establish forever”
i) This is a reference to the descendants of David.
ii) The line of David will be perpetuated.
b) “And build up your throne to all generations”
i) Specific reference was made to the throne of David.
ii) The covenant with David would extend “to all generations”.

STANDING IN AWE OF GOD’S COVENANT MADE WITH DAVID

David’s response to God’s covenant-promise is worth reading again and again (2 Samuel 7). The words of David displayed great awe and humility.

“Who am I, O Lord GOD?
And what is my house, that You have brought me this far?
And yet this was a small thing in Your sight, O Lord GOD;
And You have also spoken of Your servant’s house for a
great while to come.
Is this the manner of man, O Lord GOD?
Now what more can David say to You?
For You, Lord GOD, know Your servant.”
2 Samuel 7:18-20
