A SONG OF ZION

Psalm 87 is one of a number of songs written in praise of Zion. Consider the short list of songs written about Zion (Jerusalem).

1. Psalm 48

a) This is a classic song of Zion that described the beauty of Jerusalem, the city of the great King.
b) This was also written by the sons of Korah.

2. Psalm 50

a) This is another beautiful song of Zion which was described as “the perfection of beauty”.
b) Asaph was the writer of this psalm.

3. Psalm 76

a) This was another psalm written by Asaph.
b) He described Zion as the dwelling place of God.

FOUNDATIONS

The idea of “foundations” is usually associated with the idea of buildings. There is a peculiar use of the word “foundation” in the following text.

“His foundation is in the holy mountains.”
Psalm 87:1
