TROUBLES THAT WEIGH DOWN THE HEART

David wrote about “the day of (his) trouble” (Psalm 86:7a). The following text sheds light on the kind of trouble that weighed David down so much.

“O God, the proud have risen against me,
And a mob of violent men have sought my life,
And have not set You before them.”
Psalm 86:14

a) The proud
i) These could well be powerful enemies.
ii) Because of their wealth and power they were arrogant.
b) Risen against me
i) They dared to challenge David.
ii) They were willing to pit their forces against David.

2. “And a mob of violent men have sought my life”

a) The enemies were not only proud they were also violent.
b) A mob of them:-
i) This could refer to the proud enemies.
ii) It could also refer to the men that had been hired to attack David.
c) Sought my life
i) They were unafraid to declare their intentions.
ii) They were out to kill David.

3. “And have not set You before them”

a) They had no regard for God.
b) And not having a fear of God they were not afraid to harm the anointed of the Lord. They had no scruples about killing people, not even the king!
