Psalm 86:12a "I will praise You, O Lord my God..."

Day 281 – Psalm 86

“I will praise You, O Lord my God…” Psalm 86:12a

THE ABSENCE OF PRAISE

David was conscious of the lack of praise as he wrote this prayer-psalm. He was just too caught up with his sad and negative feelings.

1. He felt poor and needy (Psalm 86:1a).

2. He pleaded for protection and preservation (Psalm 86:2).

3. He felt the loss of joy in his heart (Psalm 86:4a).

DETERMINATION TO PRAISE GOD

David desired to praise God with all his heart. He knew that there were too many distractions in his heart. If only he could unite his heart he would offer praise to God.

“I will praise You, O Lord my God, with all my heart,
And I will glorify Your name forevermore.”
Psalm 86:12

1. “I will praise You, O Lord my God”

a) It was only right that praise should be given to the Lord.
b) If indeed there is a real and personal relationship with God, there ought to be praise.

2. “With all my heart”

a) The heart must not remain divided.
b) Every effort must be made to unite the heart till praise is given “with all (the) heart”.

3. “And I will glorify Your name”

a) Few things glorify God as sincere praise.
b) Few things are as deeply moving as overcoming all difficulties and then giving praise.

4. Forever and ever

a) Praise was not meant to be given only on occasions.
b) Praise to God ought to be given every day.
c) Praise ought to be given to God forever and ever.
d) This was a lofty goal that David determined to reach.
