“The LORD God is a sun and shield…” Psalm 84:11a

EVIDENCE OF FAITH AND LOVE

The sons of Korah wrote a beautiful Psalm that hinted at a strong and vibrant faith in God. There was also a strong sense of love for God’s house. Faith in God and love for His house went hand in hand.

1. The pilgrims evidenced this faith and love

a) They braved many difficulties to appear before God in Jerusalem.
b) They endured much for the sake of fulfilling the commandment to make pilgrimages to Zion.

2. The sons of Korah evidenced this faith and love

a) They were willing to serve in the humblest way.
b) They boldly declared their faith in God and their love for Him.

A DEEP KNOWLEDGE OF GOD

The sons of Korah displayed a deep knowledge of God. They were able to serve faithfully because of their knowledge of God. The following text reveals their knowledge of God.

“For the LORD God is a sun and shield;
The LORD will give grace and glory;
No good thing will He withhold
From those who walk uprightly.”
Psalm 84:11

1. What God is like

a) He is like the unique sun that shines on earth.
b) He is the shield of the nation of Israel (and of all who believe in Him).
c) He is the generous Giver of both grace and glory.
d) He will not withhold His blessings.

2. To whom will God give such great blessings?

a) The upright will be bestowed with these blessings.
b) Who are the upright (in the context of Psalm 84)?
i) Those who love God’s house.
ii) Those who walk as pilgrims to appear before God. (These are prepared to endure any kind of hardship that may arise along the way.)
