Day 244 – Psalm 84

“My King and my God.” Psalm 84:3d

AWED OBSERVATION

How would one respond to the idea of the sparrow and the swallow making a nest for their young in the glorious gold temple? This was what the psalmist observed.

1. The sparrows and the swallows

a) They cannot be compared to the mighty eagles.
b) They were just about the smallest and the humblest creatures in the kingdom of the birds.

2. “Found a home… a nest”

a) For themselves.
b) For their young.
c) In the altars of the temple! (Psalm 84:3c)
d) These humble birds had found a sanctuary, a safe home for themselves in God’s temple!

AWED APPRECIATION

What was the temple to Israel? What was the tabernacle of the Lord to the sons of Korah?

“Even the sparrow has found a home,
And the swallow a nest for herself,
Where she may lay her young-
Even Your altars, O LORD of hosts,
My King and my God.”
Psalm 84:3

1. The altars of God

a) They were consecrated to the Lord.
b) They were holy to God.
c) The sons of Korah were not allowed to even touch the holy artifacts let alone the altars.
d) But God had allowed the sparrows and the swallows to make a home in the temple of God.

2. Who was this living God?

a) He was the LORD of hosts.
b) He was the King of Israel and a very personal God indeed!
