“That the name of Israel may be remembered no more.” Psalm 83:4b
LEARNING OF WICKED PLANS
Asaph must have felt “desperate” for he had learned that there were sinister plans afoot to annihilate Israel.
“They have said, ‘Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation,
That the name of Israel may be remembered no more.'”
Psalm 83:4
1. “They have said”
a) This piece of knowledge could have been gathered from “intelligence”.
b) In the process of time, this kind of propaganda would become “common street knowledge”.
2. “Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation”
a) These words may well have been cited verbatim.
b) Interpreting these words:-
i) These were alarming words.
ii) They had sinister connotations.
iii) Many enemies must have been involved.
iv) These words represented evil intentions.
3. “That the name of Israel may be remembered no more”
a) More words were recalled.
b) These were chilling words.
c) Nothing short of total annihilation was the evil intent of Israel’s enemies.
TURNING TO GOD IN PRAYER
Asaph turned these thoughts over to God in prayer. Would He not rise up and take action against these wicked enemies?
