Day 99 – Psalm 77

“The waters saw You, they were afraid…” Psalm 77:16b

THE EPIC CROSSING OF THE RED SEA

This wonderful miracle of God was so sensational Moses was moved to write a psalm to commemorate this event (Exodus 15:1-18). The following text highlights this event too.

“The waters saw You, O God;
The waters saw You, they were afraid;
The depths also trembled.”
Psalm 77:16

1. “The waters saw You”

a) The waters is a reference to the Red Sea (Exodus 15:4).
b) The “waters” is personified in this text.

2.”The waters saw You, they were afraid”

a) The mighty Red Sea has feared no one before.
b) But when the waters saw God, they were afraid.

3. “The depths also trembled”

a) By God’s command the Red Sea parted.
b) The depths of the Sea were affected.
c) The depths “trembled” with fear at the command of God.

THE POINT OF THIS TEXT

This was part of the Psalmist’s attempt at “remembering” and “meditating”.

1. The negative emotions were defeated.

2. Powerful results include the following:-

a) A renewed faith in the Power of God.
b) A deeper trust in God.
i) He had not forsaken His people.
ii) He could not have taken so much trouble to redeem His people only to forsake them.
iii) His ways may not be easily comprehensible, but all may trust Him- even in hard times.
