“You are the God who does wonders…” Psalm 77:14a

HOW MAY WE DESCRIBE THE WORKS OF GOD?

Different psalmists have used various expressions to describe the works of God. Let us look at some of these expressions. Two may be cited as examples.

1. Wonderful works Psalm 40:5a

2. Awesome deeds Psalm 65:5a

The third way of describing the works of God is found in the following text.

“You are the God who does wonders;
You have declared Your strength among the peoples.”
Psalm 77:14

1. “You are the God who does wonders”

a) The word “wonders” suggests the following:-
i) Divine Power
ii) Miraculous Element
b) The wonders of God
i) The enemies of God have every reason to rue their misfortune to encounter His mighty power.
ii) The nation of Israel has every reason to rejoice that it has seen and experienced the power of God.
iii) The believer who trusts in the Lord has every reason to rejoice in His wondrous deliverance.

2. “You have declared Your strength among the peoples”

a) Behind the wonders of God is His strength.
b) “Strength” is another word for “power”.
c) Every expression of strength is a demonstration of the wondrous power of God.
d) “Peoples” would suggest “many nations” and not just Israel.
e) The wonders of God should cause everyone to stand in awe of Him.
