POTENTIAL POWER TAPPED

There is great potential power in remembering the right things. The psalmist Asaph records for us how he battled his negative thoughts and emotions by a deliberate act of remembering the Lord.

“I will remember the works of the LORD;
Surely I will remember Your wonders of old.”
Psalm 77:11

1. “I will remember”

a) This is a deliberate act.
b) The memory is stirred in the right direction.

2. “Surely I will remember”

a) Repetition serves to reinforce the decision to remember.
b) The word “surely” reveals great effort put in.

3. “The works of the LORD”

a) Many were the acts of the Lord performed for Israel.
b) A short list-
i) Promise of God to make Abraham a great nation.
ii) Promise of God to give Canaan to Israel.
iii) Promise of God to protect and preserve Israel.
iv) Every promise fulfilled is a great work of God.

4. “Your wonders of old”

a) God’s works may indeed be described as “wonders” (miracles).
b) Deliverance from slavery in Egypt was a great wonder.
c) Crossing of the Red Sea dry-shod was another great wonder.
d) Provision for Israel during the 40 years in the wilderness was certainly a glorious wonder.
e) Conquering of the land in the days of Joshua was a wonder too.
