“I cried out to God with my voice…” Psalm 77:1a

2. Who was Jeduthun?

a) 1 Chronicles 16:37-43 sheds much light.
b) Jeduthun’s son Obed-Edom was mentioned specifically (1 Chronicles 16:38).
i) He was mentioned with Asaph and his brothers (1 Chronicles 16:37-38).
ii) They were involved in a special worship when the Ark of the Covenant was brought into Jerusalem by king David (1 Chronicle 15).
c) The sons of Jeduthun were designated “gatekeepers” (1 Chronicles 16:42).
i) This was a humble position.
ii) Nevertheless it was an important one.
iii) They were entrusted with the responsibility of guarding the ark of the Lord.
d) Jeduthun himself was also specially mentioned (1 Chronicles 16:41).
i) He was mentioned with Heman (1 Chronicles 16:41).
ii) They were chosen to offer thanksgiving to the Lord (1 Chronicles 16:41).
iii) They were to employ musical instruments in their offering of thanksgiving to God (1 Chronicles 16:42).
iv) Their musical instruments included trumpets and cymbals (1 Chronicles 16:42).
e) They were involved in a special worship with Zadok the priest (1 Chronicles 16:39).
i) Zadok and his fellow-priests were to offer burnt offerings (1 Chronicles 16:40).
ii) The Levites like Asaph and Jeduthun were to assist in worship through music.
