Day 102 – Psalm 77

“You led Your people like a flock…” Psalm 77:20a

GOD’S LEADING

The psalmist Asaph finally found great peace of heart and mind. He began writing Psalm 77 with deepest doubts. As he remembered and meditated, he found new hope and strength. His conclusion is a good and correct one.

“You led Your people like a flock
By the hand of Moses and Aaron.”
Psalm 77:20

1. “You led”

a) This truth must be fathomed.
b) This reality must be established.
c) God’s leading must always be believed in.

2. “Your people”

a) Israel had a covenantal relationship with God.
b) God took Israel as His people (Exodus 6:7).
c) This was clearly stated (Exodus 6:1-8).

3. “Like a flock”

a) The imagery of a Shepherd and his flock is in mind.
b) God was that Great Shepherd and Israel His flock.

4. “By the hand of Moses and Aaron”

a) Moses was the anointed leader of Israel.
b) Aaron’s role was that of High Priest.

THE FACT REMAINS

Both Moses and Aaron had died long ago. But the fact remains that God was still leading His flock. He is not dependent on Moses and Aaron as leaders. God’s Presence and Power are all that mattered!

This was a great truth that Asaph needed to establish for himself. Israel may go through hard times, but the nation must never lose sight of the fact that God would always be in absolute sovereign control. The heart and mind need not go into a tailspin of utter despair. There is no need to doubt God at any time. God is deeply committed to leading His people from here to eternity.
