Day 100 – Psalm 77

“The clouds poured out water…” Psalm 77:17a

AN ADDED PERSPECTIVE

We have an added perspective to the Red Sea episode in the following text.

“The clouds poured out water;
The skies sent out a sound;
Your arrows also flashed about.
The voice of Your thunder was in the whirlwind;
The lightnings lit up the world;
The earth trembled and shook.”
Psalm 77:17-18

1. Not in the Song of Moses

This perspective was not included in the song of Moses (Exodus 15:1-18).

2. Hinted at in another text

This perspective may be a poetic description of the more prosaic text in Exodus.

“Now it came to pass, in the morning watch,
that the LORD looked down upon the army of the Egyptians
through the pillar of fire and cloud,
and He troubled the army of the Egyptians.”
Exodus 14:24

a) He troubled them.
b) How did God trouble them?
i) Rainstorm
ii) Lightning storm
ii) Thunderstorm
c) All these things would add to the terror of the Egyptian army.

3. The response of the Egyptians

We have recorded a response from the Egyptians as they tried to escape Divine wrath.

“And He took off their chariot wheels,
so that they drove them with difficulty;
and the Egyptians said,
‘Let us flee from the face of Israel,
for the LORD fights for them against the Egyptians.'”
Exodus 14:25

The mighty Egyptian army was greatly humbled that fateful day! No one could withstand the mighty power of God! The thought of God’s power must bring great encouragement to the heart.
