Day 27 – Psalm 73

“God is the strength of my heart and my portion…” Psalm 73:26b

A SPECIAL SPIRITUAL REVIVAL

The psalmist Asaph seemed to have experienced a spiritual revival. With this revival came a new spirit of gratitude.

“My flesh and heart fail;
But God is the strength of my heart
and my portion forever.”
Psalm 73:26

1. A mature outlook

a) Concerning the flesh.
i) It may not always be strong.
ii) It may become weak and frail.
b) Concerning the heart.
i) This is not a reference to the physical organ.
ii) This is a reference to the seat of emotions.
iii) The heart may not always be steady and strong.
iv) The heart may even fail miserably when life’s circumstances are adverse.
c) A humble acceptance was now adopted.

2. “But God is the strength of my heart”

a) Natural strength may falter and fail.
b) But there is always God to fall back on.
c) Through faith in God strength will always be available.

3. “And my portion forever”

a) There was a fresh sense of choosing the Lord as his inheritance.
b) The psalmist Asaph would rather make God his portion than have wealth.
