Day 19 – Psalm 73

“Until I went into the sanctuary of God…” Psalm 73:17a

LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL

Asaph walked along a path that seemed dreary and bleak. It was like walking through a deep and dark tunnel. As he trudged on he found light and once again a glimmer of hope stirred within him.

“Until I went into the sanctuary of God;
Then I understood their end.”
Psalm 73:16

1. “Until I went into the sanctuary of God”

a) The sanctuary of God (physical).
i) This was where all the Levites worked.
ii) Their main ministry was in the physical sanctuary of God.
iii) The Tabernacle in the earlier days.
iv) The Temple after Solomon built it.
b) The sanctuary of God (spiritual).
i) The sanctuary of God was not just the physical.
ii) There was another sanctuary that must be found.
iii) The physical sanctuary (shelter) was meant to be a symbol of the greater spiritual reality.

2. “Then I understood their end”

a) Asaph’s reasoning was faulty and defective.
b) In his mind he saw the wicked and the ungodly existing perpetually.
c) He could not fathom “their end”.
d) Would their riches survive forever?
e) Could they continue indefinitely with their wicked and ungodly ways?
f) Surely there must be an “end” to wickedness!
