Day 364 – Psalm 72

“And blessed be His glorious name forever!” Psalm 72:19a

THE GLORIOUS NAME OF GOD

King David was one who wrote much about the glory of God (Psalms 8, 19). This was a lesson that Solomon had learned well.

“And blessed be His glorious name forever!
And let the whole earth be filled with His glory.
Amen and Amen.”
Psalm 72:19

1. “And blessed be His glorious name forever”

a) This is no mere formal statement of truth.
b) Solomon had two personal experiences with God:-
i) The first was when God offered to grant whatever he wished for (1 Kings 3:6-15).
ii) The second was after the dedication of the temple (1 Kings 9:1-9).
c) Solomon correctly stood in awe of the majesty of the LORD God.
d) His heartfelt desire was to bless the glorious name of God!

2. “Let the whole earth be filled with His glory”

a) The whole earth is in fact full of the glory of God.
b) This is a wish that the earth might know and experience the glory of God.
c) The redeemed must be among the first to agree and to respond.

3. “Amen and Amen”

a) This is an assertion of affirmation at the conclusion of the prayer.
b) With all his heart, mind, soul and strength… Solomon prays that the words of his heart may be heard and fulfilled.

WOULD GOD HEAR SUCH A PRAYER?

Most assuredly! When a prayer comes from a heart that has been touched and blessed, and when it seeks to extol God’s name, it will be heard and answered!
