“Yes, all kings shall fall down before Him…” Psalm 72:11a

A UNIVERSAL KINGDOM

How extensive is the Kingdom of the Messiah? The following text yields important information.

“Yes, all kings shall fall down before Him;
All nations shall serve Him.”
Psalm 72:11

1. Not a reference to Solomon’s kingship

a) The above text cannot apply to King Solomon.
b) He may be respected and admired, but all nations did not serve him.
c) His kingdom broke up in the reign of his son, King Rehoboam (1 Kings 12).

2. A definite reference to the Messianic Kingdom

a) “Yes, all kings shall fall down before Him”
i) As vanquished kings.
ii) In tribute.
iii) In worship.
iv) In recognition of the Divine Messiah-King.
b) “All nations shall serve Him”
i) In acknowledgment of the rule of the Messiah-King.
ii) In acceding to the power and majesty of the Messiah-King.
iii) In recognition of the Sovereignty of the King of kings.

3. A Messianic Prophecy

a) God has indeed given to Jesus a name above every name.
b) At His name, every knee shall bow (Philippians 2:5-11).
c) This prophetic word awaits final fulfilment when Christ returns.
