Day 337

Psalm 71:19 "Also Your righteousness, O God, is very high..."

Day 337 – Psalm 71

“Also Your righteousness, O God, is very high…” Psalm 71:19

Throughout life we learn many powerful and precious lessons. For the psalmist the most precious lessons may be described in the following text:-

“Also Your righteousness, O God, is very high,
You who have done great things;
O God, who is like You?”
Psalm 71:19

1. “O God”

a) The most precious of all lessons of life centre on God.
b) The lessons we learn about God would enable us to cope with the vagaries of life.

2. Special lessons learned about God

a) God’s righteousness
i) This is a wonderful attribute of God.
ii) God is gloriously characterised by His righteousness.
iii) The greatness of His righteousness cannot be fully described.

iv) Thus the psalmist opted for an extremely simple description: “Your righteousness… is very high”.

b) “You have done great things”
i) These things were recorded in the Holy Scriptures.
ii) The deeds of God may indeed be described as “great things”.
iii) His “strength” is evident in all His works (Psalm 71:18b).
iv) His “power” leaves one awestruck (Psalm 71:18c).

2. “O God, who is like You?”

This is a rhetorical question. There is no need to even state the answer. The psalmist drew much assurance from his knowledge and trust in God. Surely, there wasn’t anyone like God (Micah 7:18-20).
