Day 55 – Psalm 7

“God is a just Judge…” Psalm 7:11a

AFFIRMING GOD AS A JUST JUDGE

The following text extols the virtue of the Lord as One who judges righteously at all times!

“God is a just judge,
And God is angry with the wicked every day.”
Psalm 7:11

1. God is indeed a Just Judge

a) By virtue of His being Just in nature.
b) By virtue of His being omniscient and thus He is able to see the deepest intents of both heart and mind.

2. “God is angry with the wicked every day”

a) The appeal to God’s righteous anger was not out of place (Psalm 7:6a).
b) The fact is that God is angry with the wicked every day (even if there is no appeal to His righteous anger).

A WISE WORD OF ADMONITION

David was not vindictive when he appealed to God for Divine justice! He did not take pleasure in Divine punishment meted out against the wicked. This word of admonition given to the wicked suggests that he would be glad if the wicked would repent from their evil ways.

“If he does not turn back, He will sharpen His sword;
He bends His bow and makes it ready.
He also prepares for Himself instruments of death;
He makes His arrows into fiery shafts.”
Psalm 7:12-13

1. “If he does not turn back”

a) If the wicked persists in doing evil.
b) If he does not repent from his wrong-doing and turn back from his wicked activities.

2. God would then become a Divine Adversary

Instruments of death (sword, arrows) would be prepared against the wicked! God would wage war against those who pursue wickedness. This would be a fate that David would not wish on his enemies.
