Day 306 – Psalm 69

“But as for me, my prayer is to You…” Psalm 69:13a

A DEEPER UNDERSTANDING

How does one cope when there is so much affliction in life? David’s example of coping under severe circumstances of life is truly outstanding.

“But as for me, my prayer is to You,
O LORD, in the acceptable time;
O God, in the multitude of Your mercy,
Hear me in the truth of Your salvation.
Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink;
Let me be delivered from those who hate me,
And out of the deep waters.
Let not the floodwater overflow me,
Nor let the deep swallow me up;
And let not the pit shut its mouth on me.”
Psalm 69:13-15

1. Essentially a prayer for deliverance

a) This prayer for deliverance is similar in content (Psalm 69:1-4)
b) The sense of grievance continues to be strong and palpable

2. A Deeper level of understanding may be detected in this prayer

a) “In the acceptable time”
i) The time factor is now added… in particular… “God’s time”.
ii) The feeling of urgency for God to deliver is more controlled now.
iii) There is quiet acceptance that God has “an acceptable time” in which He will answer prayer and bring about deliverance.
b) “In the multitude of Your mercy”
i) A plea for God’s mercy to be extended is now made.
ii) There is a good sense of trust in the multitude of God’s mercy.
c) “In the truth of Your salvation”
Will God indeed deliver? Yes- according to His truth (Word of God).
