Day 303 – Psalm 69

“Because of me…” Psalm 69:6a

A DEEP CONCERN

Understandably the Psalmist David was concerned for his own personal life and safety. Hence he cried out to the Lord for deliverance. However Psalm 69 was more than a prayer for personal safety. The following text reveals a very special facet of David’s heart that is praiseworthy.

“Let not those who wait for You, O Lord GOD of hosts,
Be ashamed because of me;
Let not those who seek You be confounded because of me,
O God of Israel.”
Psalm 69:6

1. “Those who wait for You”

a) David was one of those who waited upon the Lord.
b) This is a reference to the friends and supporters of David.
c) They too waited upon the Lord, in close association with David.

2. “Because of me”

a) David was aware that association with him held danger.
b) Those who were associated with David closely faced a similar fate.
i) They could be severely oppressed.
ii) They could even be killed.
c) He made a special plea on behalf of his followers.
d) He asked that they might be spared.
i) May they not be ashamed or humiliated.
ii) May they not be confounded.

3. Addressing God formally

a) As the “Lord GOD of hosts”- an appeal to the Mighty Power of God.
b) As the “God of Israel”- an appeal to the covenant relationship with God.
