Day 270 – Psalm 66

“I will declare what He has done for my soul.” Psalm 66:16b

TWO INVITATIONS

The psalmist was very interactive in his approach. Two invitations were given in this psalm.

“Come and see the works of God;
He is awesome in His doing toward the sons of men.

Come and hear, all you who fear God,
And I will declare what He has done for my soul.”
Psalm 66:5, 16

A PERSONAL TESTIMONY

The psalmist declared that he would gladly speak of what the Lord had done for him. (However this short psalm did not give specific details as to what God actually did for him.)

1. “Come and hear, all you who fear God”

a) This was a clear invitation.
b) The addressees are clearly identified.
i) They are people who feared God.
ii) They are thus people who would understand things at a deeper level.

2. “And I will declare what He has done for my soul”

While there may not be specific details, the following thoughts may be suggested:-

a) God must have delivered him out of his troubles (Psalm 66:13-15).
b) Those troubles may have been like those faced by Israel in the past (Psalm 66:6-7).
c) He must have felt that he had emerged like purified and refined silver (Psalm 66:10).
d) He must have benefitted spiritually from the trials of life.
e) He could say that God had given him rich fulfilment after his trials (Psalm 66:12c).
f) He had been marvelously preserved by the Lord; his feet were steadfast and they had not been moved (Psalm 66:9).
