Day 264 – Psalm 66

“Come and see the works of God…” Psalm 66:5a

AN INVITATION

This song had another special element. It included an invitation.

“Come and see the works of God;
He is awesome in His doing toward the sons of men.
He turned the sea into dry land;
They went through the river on foot.
There we will rejoice in Him.”
Psalm 66:5-6

1. “Come and see the works of Godâ??

a) The context of the works of God was in the history of Israel.
b) The works of God however were portrayed as if they were in the present context.
c) To the psalmist the works of God in the past had a very strong sense of relevance in the present.

2. “He is awesome in His doing toward the sons of men”

a) The works of God were indeed “awesome” to the writer.
b) The works cited were the following:-
i) The crossing of the Red Sea

The Lord… made the sea into dry land… (Exodus 14:21)

ii) The crossing of the River Jordan

They went through the river on foot (Joshua 3:14-16).

3. “There we will rejoice in Him”

a) Physical location may be in mind.
i) Understandably there would be great rejoicing at the Red Sea Crossing (Exodus 15).
ii) There would also be great rejoicing at the River Jordan Crossing (Joshua 3-4).
b) Spiritual significance may also be in mind.
i) There must be rejoicing in the Lord.
ii) Every recall of the Lordâ??s deeds ought to bring great rejoicing.
