Day 243 – Psalm 63

“My soul shall be satisfied…” Psalm 63:5a

SATISFACTION

Few can say they are “satisfied” with their lot in life. The scholar longs for more knowledge. The rich man desires greater wealth. The warrior desires to be undefeated. How then could David write the following words?

“My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness,
And my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips.”
Psalm 63:5

1. “My soul shall be satisfied”

a) With God.
b) With knowledge and experience of His glory and power.
c) With His lovingkindness.
d) With knowledge of the Name of God.

David found “soul-satisfaction” of the rarest kind!

2. Comparison

a) The marrow is found in the bone. Healthy marrow makes for great health.
b) Fatness is used in opposition to “unhealthy thinness”. (Obesity is not in mind though.)
c) As many are happy if there is robust health, so the soul that has found God is fully satisfied.

3. “And my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips”

a) A satisfied soul is a joyful one.
b) The expressions of a soul that is fully satisfied would include the following:-
i) The mouth would offer great words of praise to God.
ii) The words of praise would be accompanied with great joy.

FINDING SOUL-SATISFACTION

David’s soul-thirst drove him to look for God in His sanctuary. His efforts were not in vain. There was nothing more meaningful than soul-satisfaction!
