Day 237 – Psalm 62

“Do not trust in oppression…” Psalm 62:10a

THE PERVERSE SYSTEM OF THE WORLD

David was aware of the existence of two systems. One is characterised by righteousness. This was the system he espoused. It required faith in God. The other system was its antithesis. This system may be represented in the following text.

“Do not trust in oppression,
Nor vainly hope in robbery;
If riches increase, do not set your heart on them.”
Psalm 62:10

1. Strong words of admonition employed

a) Do not trust.
b) Do not set your heart.

2. Things that should not be pursued

a) Oppression
i) Some chose the path of oppression as the path to power.
ii) This path must be rejected.
b) Robbery
i) The wicked think nothing about robbing others to gain wealth.
ii) This is wicked thinking and must never be pursued.
c) Increase of wealth
i) In this context it is wealth obtained by wicked means.
ii) The heart should never pursue wealth for wealth’s sake.
iii) The heart should never be deceived into thinking that the ends justify the means!

THE PATH OF WAITING UPON THE LORD

This was the path David advocated and chose for himself.

1. There was an outright rejection of that which is wicked.

2. There is an embracing of faith in God and consequently waiting upon Him.
