Day 218 – Psalm 60

“Through God we will do valiantly…” Psalm 60:12a

PRAYING WITH RENEWED FAITH

There was now renewed confidence in David. He was more and more assured in his heart that he would not go into battle alone. God Himself would be there for him and for the armies of Israel. Nevertheless he would continue to pray (as he knew he ought).

“Give us help from trouble, for the help of man is useless.
Through God we will do valiantly,
For it is He who shall tread down our enemies.”
Psalm 60:11-12

1. “Give us help from trouble”

a) Consciousness of God was even more heightened.
b) Confidence in God was assured.
c) Crying out to God for help was a fitting expression of faith in God.

2. “For the help of man is useless”

a) David’s confidence was no longer in man.
b) He may have been thinking of his armies.
c) No matter how strong and brave his soldiers were, his confidence should not be in them.

3. “Through God we will do valiantly”

a) David’s reliance on God kept growing stronger.
b) He was even more conscious of how God must be involved in every battle plan, and in every war effort.
c) Through God’s help Israel would do valiantly.

4. “For it is He who shall tread down our enemies”

a) Ultimately it is God who gives the victory.
b) It is God who will tread down all Israel’s enemies.
c) This understanding of God’s total involvement was something that David now relished.
d) The conclusion of David’s prayer was a complete turnaround from its commencement!
