Day 210 – Psalm 59

“To You, O my Strength, I will sing praises…” Psalm 59:17a

A RENEWAL OF FAITH

David had once again experienced the deliverance of God. And through this experience he found a renewal of faith in the Lord. With this renewal there came a new inspiration to write and to sing praises to God (Psalm 59).

“To You, O my Strength, I will sing praises;
For God is my defence, my God of mercy.”
Psalm 59:17

1. When fear threatened to overwhelm

a) There was weakness instead of strength.
b) There was no song of praise offered to God.
c) There was doubt as to whether God would defend him.
d) There was doubt as to whether God’s mercy would be extended.

2. When faith in God prevailed

a) Faith that was based upon knowledge of God.
i) That He was the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel (Psalm 59:5)
ii) That He was indeed the Lord who ruled the earth (Psalm 59:13)
b) Faith that was expressed
i) In persevering prayer.
ii) In waiting upon the Lord.

3. A renewed faith in God

a) David found renewed strength in the Lord.
b) He was able to affirm that God had proven Himself as One who capably defended him.
c) He was able to find new joy and trust in the mercy of God.
d) There was now a fresh spirit of joy experienced.
e) This new spirit would inspire David to sing praises to God with even deeper understanding and appreciation!
